Ace stopped wearing shirts almost all the time in order to showcase that mark–his relationship with Whitebeard–to the world. That meant the world to Ace, and he took great pride in it. But we know how important Whitebeard was to Ace, and that tattoo was the symbol that represented that Ace was a member of Whitebeard’s crew–that he was Whitebeard’s son. We saw Ace wear shirts/jackets a few times after he got the tattoo, so it’s not like he refused to ever cover it EVER.

He stopped wearing shirts so that he could display Whitebeard’s Jolly Roger on his back When and why did Ace stop wearing shirts? Ace not wearing a shirt had nothing to do with his powers. And we saw that he was still wearing them when he was aboard Whitebeard’s ship and tried to kill him over 100 times, even though he already had his flame powers at that point. For most of his life he didn’tĪs a kid he always wore tank tops, and by the time he was 17 and left home he started wearing open short-sleeve shirts, like what Franky does. Ace and why he didn’t wear a shirt though.
